Skincare Tips To Consider To Help Get Rid of Acne Fast

Article by Jenny Mays

Acne does not just affect someone physically but also psychologically and is one of the main factors in robbing someone of their self esteem. It is not uncommon for those faced with a bout of acne to want to hide away and not leave the house so as not to be judged negatively by others because unfortunately, we live in a society that values appearance more than substance. If you are fighting acne, here are some effective steps that will help you get rid of acne fast.

Step 1 To Get Rid Of Acne Fast

Cleansing is an all important step when fighting acne and will help to get rid of the acne worsening surface dead skin cells and bacteria. The goal however should not be to get the skin “squeaky” clean or aggressively scrub the face with a face cloth or use very hot water. A gentle hand and a cleanser that does not overly dry the skin is very important. If the skin is left very dry, it will just overcompensate by producing excess sebum (oil) to combat the dryness which is not what an acne sufferer wants.

To eliminate acne, the best cleanser is one that contains salicylic acid. Select a cleanser that contains about 2% salicylic acid. Any less may not be effective and any more may be too drying on the skin. Also ensure that the cleanser only contains salicylic acid and no other acne fighting ingredients.

Cleanse the face with a salicylic acid cleanser once of twice a day when fighting acne depending on the type of skin you have. If you have sensitive skin, once a day should be sufficient to prevent the skin from becoming very irritated.

When applying the cleanser, wet the face and massage the cleanser onto the face and other acne prone areas in circular motions and leave it on for a minute or two before washing it off with warm water.

Step 2 To Get Rid Of Acne Fast

Step 1 above covers dealing with surface dead skin cells and bacteria. For step 2 when fighting acne, the next step is to go a little deeper into the skin. The best ingredient at getting into the plugged pores and dissolving the debris caught up in the pores is to use glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid (which rejuvenate skin while making it appear younger) and is derived from cane sugar.

When fighting acne using glycolic acid, a formulation featuring about 8 to 10% concentration is ideal with no other active ingredients included in the formulation.

After completing step 1 above, apply a cream containing glycolic acid on the skin. Leave on the skin for a few minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Do this in the morning.

Step 3 To Get Rid Of Acne Fast

The third step to eliminate acne is to apply a product that can kill the acne causing bacteria in the pores. An effective product for eliminating this bacteria problem is benzoyl peroxide. Use a lotion or cream containing benzoyl peroxide in the evening after cleansing the skin with salicylic acid and leave it on overnight to continue its work.

Step 4 To Get Rid Of Acne Fast

A good light moisturizer is important for maintaining healthy skin. When fighting acne, the moisturizer should be oil free as oily moisturizers will only clog the pores worsening acne. Use a moisturizer containing an SPF of at least 30 (or use a separate oil free sun protection lotion on top of the moisturizer) to prevent ultraviolet light damage to the skin. An SPF will also prevent the sun from darkening acne scars and making them more noticeable.

When acne becomes more manageable, steps 2 and 3 may be eliminated or used infrequently but the cleansing and oil free moisturizer with an SPF will always be necessary.
